Louis Vuitton Lifts Rugby’s Biggest Prize

Winning in style.

Rugby World Cup France 2023 Trophy

Fashion enthusiasts and rugby fans across the world have their eyes on France this month, with the recent conclusion of Paris Fashion Week alongside the Rugby World Cup moving on to the semifinals.

Every team in the tournament has aspirations of taking home the Webb Ellis Trophy on October 28, and Louis Vuitton has specially crafted a trunk to deliver the prize. The case is adorned with details of Louis Vuitton’s classic trunks—leather trim, brass corner protectors, locks, and clasps—used since the 1860s. On one side, the winning team will find a Rugby World Cup 2023 logo, and on the other, the Roman numerals XV, for the number of players fielded by each team. The trunk is covered in Louis Vuitton monogrammed canvas, and both folding doors feature a V in red, white, and blue—the colours of the French flag and the tournament’s logo.

“The Rugby World Cup is a showcase of French excellence and savoir-faire, so it is fitting that we have partnered with Louis Vuitton, the absolute embodiment of those values,” says Julien Collette, CEO of the Rugby World Cup France 2023.

Designed in Louis Vuitton’s atelier in Asnières, and serving as an homage to the tournament and the country hosting, the trunk will be on display during the final at the Stade de France in Paris.
