We are a small team, which means an opportunity to work across all aspects of publication—production, admin, design for print and digital, social media, etc. Reporting to the art director, you are a clear and confident communicator, able to work without constant supervision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design layouts for digital stories, print, and marketing material.
  • Design digital assets for web.
  • Assist with visual direction for print-to-web production.
  • Collaborate with editorial, production, and marketing departments.
  • Ensure NUVO and MONTECRISTO branding and design standards are maintained across internal and external presentations.
  • Work directly with the art director on all aspects of photo shoot production, from securing location, communicating with contributors as needed, and liaising with vendors to ensure that the shoot is successful and within budget.
  • Work as production assistant on photo shoots.
  • Conduct photo research for features and ensure supplied images are up to the standard.
  • Ensure needed assets for web crops and web clips.
  • Execute creative team’s administrative tasks including processing invoices and keeping a log of payments.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of design experience in publishing, agency, or relevant field.
  • Proficient in creating graphic elements, layouts, and spreads to spec for online, mobile, and publishing.
  • Excellent creative and visual conceptualization, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, evolving, dynamic environment.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and excellent communication skills; must be self-sufficient and resourceful.
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Professional demeanour with ability to interact at all levels within the organization.
  • Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience with a UI design and prototyping tool UxPin is an asset.

To apply, please send a cover letter explaining why you are a great fit for this position, your resumé, and visual work to: szarkovic@nuvomagazine.com.

Please note: This is an entry-level position. Salary range is $40-$45K per annum. Work is in the Vancouver office. Only applicants available for work in Vancouver will be considered.
