Birch Selsdon on London’s Outskirts

In 200-acre historic Selsdon Park 30 minutes from central London, Birch Selsdon, design studio A-nrd’s inaugural hotel project, recently opened its doors. The studio removed many previous modifications to the 19th-century building, restoring its historical character to communal areas like the snug and orangery while introducing modern and timeless elements to the 180-room hotel. “As a studio, we have always focused on repurposing and valorizing architectural and design features,” A-nrd founder Alessio Nardi says. The sustainability-focused studio collaborated with furniture designer and environmentalist Sebastian Cox on furniture made from timber cut from the estate’s land to facilitate its rewilding.
