Tierra Santa Spa, Miami
An oasis built on ancient healing techniques.
A spa is a spa is a spa. Once upon a time that was the case but today, the spa has been elevated to revered status and the hotel spa, a class of distinction. With peace of mind a precious commodity and “wellness” the new buzzword, it’s no longer enough to simply take a holiday. No trip can be considered complete without enjoying stress-relieving treatments where the “me” in all of us is given centre stage.
Tierra Santa, a South American–inspired spa at Faena Hotel Miami Beach, typifies the continent’s age-old healing techniques. Considered the hotel’s “spiritual vortex”, the 22,000-square-foot spa is dedicated to the art of well-being. Tierra Santa, which is Spanish for “holy ground”, was inspired by hotel owner Alan Faena’s estate in Punta del Este, Uruguay, where he is an enthusiastic gardener. Upon entering the spa, it’s impossible not to notice the larger-than-life floral arrangement of 700 roses, a flower with which Faena is particularly obsessed. Inside Tierra Santa is a titanic chandelier comprised of kaleidoscopic fishing lures; embroidered poufs are strewn in the boho space, and Carolina K–designed flowy white lace–collar frocks along with hand-loomed belts and red TOMS are the spa staff uniforms.
The Tierra Santa experience begins in the extensive wet spa where one can indulge in a suite of hydrotherapy offerings ranging from a jasmine-scented hammam, an ice parlour, an herbal steam room, and a tepidarium furnished with heated marble beds. Borrowing its ethos from South American healing rituals where shamans perform energy work and channel spirits to repair both body and soul, Tierra Santa Spa offerings include body treatments, holistic healing and acupuncture, sound and colour therapy, and rejuvenating facials. The Tree of Life, unique to Tierra Santa, with therapist Randi is an age-old passport to bliss designed to balance the chakras using sound therapy, Brazilian rose stones, and massage. To release tension, the Sacred Warrior body massage uses warmed herbal poultices and lapis lazuli from Chile combined with homeopathic infusions to release tension.
Tierra Santa Spa is not short on grandeur; it is an experience to be had, on perpetual repeat.
