Lac + Beauty
Toronto’s glamour destination.
The facials cost as much as $600. Each. Still, there’s a line up.
“We have over a thousand clients,” pronounces Tony Pham, owner of Lac + Beauty, Toronto’s newest emporium of high-cost fabulousness. “Our database is full.”
Open since fall 2016 and already commanding a devoted following of die-hard fashionistas (among them Toronto Fashion Week founder Robin Kay and the executive team behind the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards), the one-stop glamour destination is an extension of Lac + Co, Pham’s original 2015 hair salon located next door. Both businesses, named for the Vietnamese-born Pham’s late father, are on Davenport, near Avenue Road, on a small but highly desirable shopping strip offering custom-made furs by designer and luxurious wedding gowns by Ines Di Santo. Pham’s bespoke beauty services, from makeup to manicures, fit right in: “We want to give clients what they want and also what they can’t get anywhere else. We offer exclusive.”
A case in point is the aforementioned $600 facial combining buccal massage to stretch and tone facial muscles and serums made from botanicals and other natural ingredients. The two-and-a-half hour personalized treatment is the creation of French biochemist Joëlle Ciocco whose Centre d’Epidermologie, on the Right Bank, is a favourite of Catherine Deneuve, Carine Roitfeld, Juliette Binoche, and Carla Bruni among other celebrities. Pham sent two of his staff to study with Ciocco for a month. They are now among only eight estheticians in the world licensed to perform her extravagant but effective facial outside Paris.
“It’s like a workout for the face and it really does make you look younger,” says Pham who has repeat clients flying in from New York, Vancouver, and Montreal for the deluxe regimen. “It sells like cupcakes.”
