5 New Saskatoon Restaurants and Cafés to Try This Fall
Flavorful fall on the Prairies.
Saskatoon’s growing food scene grew a little bigger in 2021, adding both restaurants and cafés to the local list. With cooler weather in full swing, there’s no better way to stay warm than by cozying up with a delicious meal or a cup of your favourite coffee. Be sure to check out Saskatoon’s newest restaurants and make the most of fall.
Bagel Shop YXE
Bagel Shop is this year’s addition to Saskatoon’s Riversdale restaurant scene that we never knew we needed. The bagels are perfection—a hybrid of Montreal and New York style, they’re hand-rolled, boiled in honey water, and then baked in a stone oven. Try this Saskatoon bagel shop’s NYP sandwich, which features brisket brined in-house for nine days and then smoked for 16 hours. It’s a labour of love.
Blanco Cantina
This Calgary favourite made its way over to Saskatoon this summer with its first-ever Saskatchewan location. If you love the combination of tacos and tequila in Saskatchewan, this one’s for you, as the menu features over 100 different tequila expressions. The other star of the show is the tableside guacamole, made fresh right at your table. And of course, there are plenty of hand-crafted margaritas on the menu—try the chili coconut or watermelon.
Caraway Grill
Caraway Grill is one of Regina’s best-loved restaurants, and this summer saw the opening of a second YQR location and the first in Saskatoon. Caraway’s Saskatchewan North Indian cuisine has gained a strong reputation for its signature taste and quality, in part because many of the menu items are cooked in a traditional clay oven. Try the butter chicken—the most popular dish—plus a side of garlic or butter naan.
Prism Coffee
Meet the newest addition to Riversdale, Prism Coffee. The minimalist interior is open and bright, and features a mural by local artist Alt Haus Murals. Prism sources espresso from Bows & Arrows Coffee Roasters in Victoria, B.C., and all its syrups are made in-house. The vanilla latte is the most popular option, but if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s just the drink for you: the espresso and tonic.
Filosophi Wise Cuisine
Filosophi opened at the start of the new year in the space that formerly housed the well-loved Alexander’s. If you were a fan, fear not: Filosophi is carrying on the tradition of delicious eats in Varsity View by merging Prairie ingredients with West Coast inspiration. Filosophi’s food philosophy centres around meraki, the Greek word for having passion and love for your work. Be sure to try the baklava cheesecake, the signature dessert, and the Cloud: a cocktail of vodka, rosé, and white wine poured over cotton candy (it’s as dreamy as it sounds).
