Sunseeker’s 90 Ocean Is Magic on the Seas

The largest model in the British yacht builder’s Famous Five range satisfies in every way.

While it is fun to dream of living the life of a Bond villain aboard one’s custom-built megayacht, reality is a bit different for most of us. Our attainable dreams rest with smaller, serial-build production yachts, but that doesn’t mean giving up luxury, as evidenced by Sunseeker’s magnificent 90 Ocean.

The largest yacht in the acclaimed British marque’s Famous Five range of uberluxury models—including the Manhattan 55, the Predator 55 EVO, the 65 Sport Yacht and 88 Yacht, all introduced with the 90 Ocean on the same day last year—the only thing the 90 Ocean concedes to its superyacht cousins is size. Brilliantly designed and elegantly appointed, the 90 Ocean delivers every bit of luxury and opulence as its bigger sisters, just in a more manageable size.

Make no mistake, the 90 Ocean is a big boat. Stretching more than 27 metres in length and riding on an eye-opening seven-metre beam, it’s almost 80,000 kilograms of yacht, with space to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests and a crew of four. With its 13,000-litre fuel capacity, the yacht offers a range of more than 1,800 nautical miles—more than enough for a leisurely Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver or a straight-through run from Halifax to Miami. And if need be, you can get there promptly, with its twin MAN diesels delivering top speeds in the range of—wait for it—over 27 knots.

The best place to step aboard is at the stern, of course, via the yacht’s expansive aft swim platform. Or if it’s berthed aft-in, perhaps with the convenient ladder gangway by Besenzoni. Either way, once aboard you’ll notice the integrated hydraulic platform with ample space to house and launch a Jet Ski, a Williams SportJet 460 tender or a couple of SeaBobs. And surprise, surprise, the 90 Ocean also features a spacious six-by-four-metre beach club for enjoying the sun with family and friends. There’s even a built-in barbecue, so there’s no need to leave the beach club when hunger calls. An oversized rain shower allows guests to rinse off the sea water before joining for lunch or relaxing on the multiple X-TEND sunbeds that come with this yacht.

Step up into the cockpit, and the effect of the 90 Ocean’s generous beam becomes apparent. There’s an enormous amount of space for lounging in peace while enjoying breathtaking views. From the cockpit, Sunseeker provides a wide and welcoming promenade along each side of the yacht, ultimately leading to the large bow seating area. Its multiple wraparound sofas and tables are ideal spots to enjoy the sunsets with a glass of wine. Come evening, the bow deck can further transform into an open-air cinema, with its laser projector and a 140-inch screen. Movies under the stars? Absolutely.

Rather than venture forward to the bow, one can instead ascend a flight of wide steps on the cockpit’s port side that lead up to the flybridge deck. Apart from housing the upper helm position, the flybridge offers a range of lounging options for tanning or just enjoying the day, along with an outdoor dining space with 360-degree views and a carbon-fibre hardtop with a full-width retractable canopy for shade. Owners can deck the space out further with an infinity spa pool, a sideboard with a second integrated barbecue, or a wet bar with a stainless steel sink, drawer fridges, ice maker, and glass bar top.

Inside the cockpit is where the Sunseeker really dazzles. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows fully surround the opulent salon, giving it a bright and airy feel. There’s a wonderful space for relaxation in front of the 65-inch HDTV, and farther forward, a separate dining space that makes the most of the panoramic views. Farther forward still, a divider allows access to the main deck helm station, while maintaining discretion should the owner have the yacht professionally crewed.

Below, the overnight accommodations include a sumptuous VIP suite forward, the impressive owner’s suit midships, and two spacious guest cabins aft. All feature ensuite heads, ample wardrobe spaces, and natural light courtesy of large privacy windows.

With its onboard space, thoughtful amenities, luxurious appointments, and unadulterated luxury, Sunseeker’s 90 Ocean surprises and delights at every turn. Any Bond villain would feel right at home.
