Recipe of the Week: Merry Margarita
Close out 2023 in style.
As 2023 comes to close, ring in the new year with a wintery rendition of the classic margarita, a cocktail that will warm you up as the year draws down.
Ingredients
1 1⁄2 ounces Crystal Head Onyx
1⁄2 ounce mezcal
1 ounce fresh blood orange juice
3⁄4 ounce fresh lime juice
1⁄2 ounce winter spice agave
Blood orange, to garnish
Salt, to garnish
Star anise pod, to garnish
Method
To make the winter agave syrup:
Pour a cup of agave syrup into a pot.
Add 3-5 star anise pods, 2 cloves, and ½ tsp of allspice.
Grate nutmeg and cinnamon stick to your preference.
Bring to a boil, then let simmer for 10 minutes.
Let cool to room temperature, then double strain.
Store in the fridge for up to a month.
To make the margarita:
Add all ingredients to a cocktail mixer and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds over ice.
Strain into a rocks glass onto fresh ice.
Garnish with a blood orange wheel, anise star pod, and a salt stripe painted on the side of the glass.
