Otam’s 90’ GTS Marries Sleek Elegance With Boundless Performance
A spectacular performance yacht that can’t help but thrill.
Reflecting the unmistakable hand of designer Giuseppe Bagnardi and the hull work of Umberto Tagliavini and Aldo Scorzoni, Otam’s all-new 90’ GTS was the talk of the town when it made its global debut in celebration of the company’s 70th anniversary at last September’s Cannes Yachting Festival. Named Sexy Me by its Italian owner, there’s a lot more to the 90’ GTS than what you see on the surface.
Powered by twin Rolls Royce mtu 2,600 horsepower engines turning Arneson surface drives, the 90’ GTS easily marked a top speed during its sea trials off Cannes of 72 kilometres per hour at wide open throttle, which is eyebrow-raising for a 27.5-metre luxury yacht displacing more than 70 tonnes. Moreover, it did so with a full complement of crew and passengers while maintaining a glass-smooth, responsive ride. The ride is more elegant than formal, which means everything in a yacht designed to make the point of the journey not to arrive but to savour the experience of getting there in style.
Because, for yachts, speed is nothing without style, Otam decks out its 90’ GTS in opulent luxury. Step aboard at the massive, hydraulically controlled stern swim platform, and twin steps on either side of a fabulous, triple-wide aft-facing sun pad welcome you. In the spacious cockpit, an expansive L-shaped settee wraps neatly around a freestanding pedestal-mount table on an electric base to create an extraordinary space for drinks or dining al fresco, enjoying panoramic views and the protection of an overhead hardtop.
Outdoor and indoor spaces blend seamlessly in the 90’ GTS, with a companion L-shaped settee to starboard served by its own powered pedestal-mount table inviting the conversation forward and away from the cool night air. A delightful salon wet bar handles entertaining duties with ease, with expansive salon windows preserving the views from inside.
Far forward to starboard, the race-car-inspired helm console centres around a carbon-fibre main structure that resembles the protective halo system used in Formula 1 cars. It even includes an integrated and independent cooling system to keep the console electronics at a constant temperature, just like its racetrack relatives. The air intakes on the front of the yacht and the snorkel on the hardtop further recall the hood and roof scoops on high-performance luxury cars.
Throughout the yacht, the integrated mix of materials is striking, with travertine and marble on the floors and bulkheads. The richness and complexity of the bronze profiles harmonize beautifully with the gold-and-pink-hued marble, creating what Otam describes as “a refined equilibrium that is both sophisticated and refreshingly light.”
As a custom yacht, the layout is up to the owner, of course, with Sexy Me showing a three-stateroom arrangement belowdecks. Aft, a full-beam owner’s suite complete with an oversized ensuite seems at odds with the boat’s sleek and speedy-looking exterior but provides a much appreciated quiet and luxurious space to unwind from the day’s excitement.
A forward VIP suite with ensuite is almost as large and opulent as the owner’s suite, ensuring guests will feel honoured to be invited aboard. Even the midships double suite inspires, with its extra space, ensuite, huge storage closet, and a level of detail you don’t see in the kids’ room on other yachts.
Continuing forward, wide catwalks on either side of the yacht lead to the bow, with an enormous U-shaped, forward-facing settee that surrounds a pedestal-mount table. Farther forward still, another three-wide sun pad invites soaking up the St. Tropez sun.
Otam enjoys a global reputation for crafting wonderfully luxurious yachts that happen to perform as if they’re hauled straight from the racetrack. The wonderful 90’ GTS lives up to this heritage, raising the bar on luxury yacht performance and style.
