NUVO Magazine: Sense, A Rosewood Spa

It’s said that smell is the most evocative of the senses. So it is quite fitting that for Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, whose mantra is “a sense of place”, each location has its own signature scent. The scent at Sense spa in Vancouver’s historic Rosewood Hotel Georgia is mint, basil, and a medley of evergreen trees.

Designed to celebrate local traditions of healing, each Sense spa offers treatments that showcase the natural elements of its own environment. In Vancouver, Sense worked closely with Sherina Jamal, founder of Beauty Through Balance, a natural spa product line that uses ethically harvested indigenous ingredients such as Pacific seaweed and glacial clay. (The requisite manicure and pedicure is on the menu, but, note: with vegan polish.)

The Sense spa experience at the Hotel Georgia is best begun with a dip in the hotel’s saltwater lap pool—gentle on your skin and hair. “We wanted to create an oasis where guests could not only relax, but would emerge feeling invigorated,” says Sense spa manager Lindsay Koropchuk.

The Vancouver Signature Sensation is a Sense spa signature treatment using the local ingredients harnessed by Beauty Through Balance. A peppermint and herb–infused sea salt exfoliation is followed by a warm Vichy shower, with two of the five shower heads directed to the heart and solar plexus chakra points on the body and the remaining three on the leg area. The treatment closes with a hydrating massage using shea butter infused with the Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s signature scent, leaving you feeling refreshed and revitalized—in short, ready to take on the Grouse Grind.
