It’s easy to fall in love with the idea of a superyacht, but the reality of owning one is a different proposition altogether. That’s because the greatest things about a superyacht come with a corresponding cost. Sure, they’re supersized boats that can go anywhere, but once they arrive at their destination, superyachts are often too big to even get into the interesting ports of call. It’s inconvenient enough when that means you always have to take the tender to go ashore, and a much bigger problem when it comes time to refuel and reprovision.

Worse still is the cost of operating a superyacht. If you think your SUV is thirsty, try gassing up the equivalent of a small cruise ship every week. But more pointedly, in today’s world, outsized yachts can represent oversized targets, making it more appealing to simply blend in with the crowd on a smaller, less ostentatious vessel–albeit without giving up too much of that over-the-top luxury.

Enter the all-new Pearl 82.

The Pearl 82

The latest yacht launched by the luxury British marque Pearl Yachts, the Pearl 82 takes everything magnificent about a massive superyacht and caresses it into a compact hull form with a far more manageable 25-metre overall length. That achievement comes thanks to the yacht’s innovative design, as it is the only vessel in its class to offer a true raised pilot house with a choice of aft deck configurations, a semi-walkaround main deck, and a private forepeak terrace.

This design approach enables the Pearl 82 to deliver legitimate superyacht amenities within its more sensible footprint, including direct passageways connecting all the exterior areas from bow to stern.

Envisioned by esteemed British naval architect Bill Dixon and with interiors by Kelly Hoppen CBE, the Pearl 82 reflects the very best of contemporary yacht design. That includes a choice of two aft deck arrangements–Riviera, which places aft-facing sun pads behind the table and sofa setup, or Veranda, which allows owners to pivot the seating between picnic and private patio orientations, always keeping the sea in sight.

With either arrangement, the side bulwarks lower to open the cockpit and create an enticing stern beach club. You have to look very carefully to spot the cleverly hidden stern garage, which offers space for a William 345 tender, a personal watercraft and plenty of water toys.

The main deck salon is surrounded by enormous, near full-height windows that provide virtually uninterrupted 360-degree views. Indirect lighting, inviting textures, and tasteful fabric treatments create a magnetic lounging space in which to plan the day or relax before bed.

The main deck dining space occupies the forward end of the main deck salon, affording proximity to the galley and the day head. Far forward on the main deck is the opulent master suite, surrounded by huge privacy-glass windows and massive double sliding doors far forward leading to a private bow terrace.

The lower deck offers four luxurious ensuite staterooms for guest accommodation, including twin VIP suites and two twin cabins. The aft lower deck houses crew accommodation with direct helm access.

Days are most likely spent enjoying the main deck forward terrace or lounging on the flybridge beck, where sumptuous sun lounges, a Jacuzzi tub, a full-size dining table for meals under the stars, and a multifunctional wet bar assure round-the-clock comfort. The louvred roof allows in as much or as little sun as desired.

Really, the only things the Pearl 82 lacks compared to a traditional superyacht are the expense and the headaches. The good stuff is all here, and in a strikingly beautiful package.

The Pearl 82 will be making its debut at boat shows around the world this winter, so here’s your chance to experience the magic of a full-blown superyacht in a hull trim enough to go far. Waiting for your dream boat to arrive? The wait is over.
