The gentleman’s driver, a shoe often cited as a must-have staple, is getting personal. On June 1, Salvatore Ferragamo launches an initiative called MTO Driver (MTO stands for “made-to-order”), giving men the opportunity to customize loafers to their liking: from the sole construct, to the colour of the upper, to the hardware finish of its hallmark Gancio (inspired from the wrought iron gate of Ferragamo’s majestic Florentine Palazzo Spini Feroni). There are over 100 permutations possible, from demure to decorous. Ordering online at driver.ferragamo.com or in-store from an iPad-equipped sales associate, allows customers to see their future loafers as they build them. Classic Black with a fog-coloured sole and graphite hardware? Yours. So is Flame Red with a cherry-coloured sole and polished gold Gancio, should you want it. Personalized lettering options complete the process at no extra cost. The MTO Driver takes 12 weeks for delivery, but remember: good things come to those who wait.
