5 of Manitoba’s Cozy Cabins
Hygge heaven.
Winter is upon the Prairies, and thoughts turn to cabins complete with a crackling fire, a steamy hot tub, and boozy drinks piled high with whipped cream. The following list takes a deep-dive into the art of coziness, showcasing weekend getaways to quintessential Canadian cozy cabins in Manitoba. For those who choose to visit these sleepy, magical cabins, onesies are definitely recommended.
Falcon Trails Resort
There’s no better location to watch the stars and northern lights than the private hot tub at Falcon Trails Resort. Inside each of the nine lakefront cabins, a wood-burning stove awaits to warm frosty cheeks after a brisk hike on the Top of the World trail, which offers a spectacular view of Falcon Lake. The main lodge has a few suites, or you can opt for one of six private eco-cabins on nearby High Lake. There’s also a sauna on the lakeshore and ski slopes within sliding distance of the cabin. Bonus: six cabins are dog-friendly.
Location: Falcon Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
Nature’s Hideaway
With only two cozy cabin rentals on the property, crowds won’t be a problem at Nature’s Hideaway. These handcrafted cabins overflow with rustic charm, but do not lack in modern embellishment, including hassle-free electric fireplaces, luxury indoor hot tubs, and satellite TV. It’s a couples-only retreat, outfitted with sprawling king-sized beds. For a special occasion, opt for the package with wine, flowers, and chocolate-covered strawberries.
Location: in the Brandon Hills, south of Brandon.
Crooked Mountain Cabins
It’s the Fiddlehead Cabin you’ll want to rent for your weekend getaway at Crooked Mountain Cabins. That’s because it comes with its own private sauna—looking like a wood nymph’s residence—tucked in the woods. It’s a cabin for two, but if you need more space, there are three additional cottages on the property, including the four-bedroom Meadowsweet, which sleeps eight. A ski and snowshoe trail runs from the cabin doors, across the meadow, down the valley, and through a mature spruce forest.
Location: about 20 minutes southeast of Riding Mountain National Park.
Tallpine Lodges
It’s completely commonplace to take that first sip of morning coffee, gaze outside at the park-like setting that is Tallpine Lodges, and see a trio of white-tailed deer plucking at the bark of an evergreen. And you may see more wildlife on your hike on nearby Hunt Lake Trail, although admittedly, it’s hard to leave the indoor hot tub, fireplace, and private sauna that grace every cabin of this couples-only getaway. Don’t feel like cooking? Walk over to the Hi-Point Restaurant and Lounge for sips and bites.
Location: West Hawk Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
Bakers Narrows Lodge
Be prepared for the Bakers Narrows Lodge to steal your heart. Give your biceps a workout by hauling in mammoth lake trout on an ice-fishing expedition—guides are standing by to show you the best spots. Then let the warm glow of an authentic log cabin surround you in the rare quiet that only the North can deliver.
Location: Lake Athapapuskow, near Flin Flon.
