Love it or hate it, eggnog is a staple during Christmas. Public opinion may have curdled on the store-bought variety, but in advance of the big day NUVO has a recipe for a homemade eggnog cocktail that will impress your guests while keeping it festive. Developed by Barnaby Malong, bar manager at Minami in Vancouver, this eggnog cocktail includes both rum and brandy and is sure to be a hit before or after Christmas dinner.
1 ounce Alvear Pedro Ximénez solera sherry
1 ounce Ron Matusalem rum
1 ounce heavy cream (or any milk substitute)
1 ounce brown sugar syrup (heat equal parts brown sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat until dissolved)
1 whole egg
1 pinch of nutmeg
Powdered cinammon, for garnish
Grated lemon zest, for garnish
Combine all the ingredients except the garnishes in a shaker.
