Montblanc Introduces the 1858 Split-Second Chronograph Limited Edition 18 in Lime Gold
A vintage-inspired timepiece.
Traditionally, March was for watches what September is for fashion—a month-long affair of novelty presentations. The past few years, there has been much disruption to the watch calendar, and then 2020 hit, and the pandemic brought the Swiss watch industry to standstill. The show must go, as they say, and brands have taken to a digital platform, showing virtually on their own or as part of a group platform as Watches & Wonders next month.
Montblanc’s workshop in Villeret, Switzerland, is where the brand manufactures its top-tier timepieces. The latest to pass through the workshop is the 1858 Split-Second Chronograph Limited Edition 18, which debuts a new case material: lime gold. The alloy is composed of 18-karat gold, silver, and iron that result in a muted tone with a yellowish-green hue. The dial is accented with green numeral indexes, the cathedral hour and minute hands, and the tachymeter and telemeter scales.
Powering the watch is the Montblanc manufacture calibre MB M16.31, a monopusher chronograph with a power reserve of 50 hours. The caseback reveals the intricate movement with finishings that include Côtes de Genève, inner angles, circular graining, and bevelling. Limited to just 18 pieces, the vintage-inspired timepiece is completed with a green nubuck alligator strap.
