Gabrielle Chanel’s Fascination with Mystical Elements Is Now a Makeup Collection
A look at the new fall/winter collection, Clairvoyance.
Numerology, astrology, and divination may have not been on the cards as inspiration for most of a fall and winter season makeup look, but Chanel’s latest collection, Clairvoyance, has our intrigue.
Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s fascination with mystical elements, the latest collection was created by makeup artist and member of the Cométes Collective–-the group of artists innovating designs and colour palettes for Chanel—Cécile Paravina.
A first makeup collection for Paravina, it looks beyond typical autumn shades, with bright aura-like shades of violet, green, and yellow in the eyeshadow palettes matched with a purple-coloured mascara, alongside light hues of pinks and browns.
Clairvoyance is presented as two eyeshadow palettes, nail polish, mascara, blush, and 15 shades of liquid lipstick. The matte-finish blushes are decorated with fanned out tarot cards and the symbolic Chanel “5”.
“I love the connection between tarot, colour and allure. There is this idea of shuffling colours like you would shuffle cards, and that one of them is an obvious choice among an ensemble of available combinations,” says Paravina.
Gabrielle Chanel herself had talismans in her Parisian apartment, as well as a fascination for divination and foresight. “Mademoiselle Chanel herself seemed to predict the future in matters of style, fashion, form, and color. As an artist, I find that very inspiring,” says Paravina.
