Madco by Ambientec Is Lighting for Any Occasion
In a new light.
Madco is a collaboration between Italian designer Elisa Ossino and Japanese lighting company Ambientec that looks to create a modern lantern that is equally at home indoors or outdoors. Drawing from CEO Yoshinori Kuno’s professional history (he started out creating lighting for underwater photography), Ambientec was founded in 2009 with a focus on portable lighting, and Madco represents a continuation of this philosophy.
“Madco emerges as a versatile multifunctional lamp, rechargeable via USB, ever-ready to accompany us wherever we go,” Ossino says. The portable lantern takes the form of a sphere and can rotate 360 degrees inside its metal structure, allowing light to diffuse in all directions, creating an array of configurations.
“Madco’s roundness and its ability to pivot will make it a lively and empathetic object—a small character,” Ossino adds. “While conceiving its design, I envisioned the round face of my daughter Maddalena, who also inspired the name.”
Ambientec is exploring the use of colour with Madco. The frame and shade are available in five monochromatic shades: olive, peach, terra cotta, mustard, and cherry.
