Bowmore’s Musically Inspired Whisky Arrives in Canada
Timeless 29 Year Old was released in collaboration with Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani.
Like a piece of music, scotch whisky is the sum of its parts. The malted barley is its percussion component, the distillation process its brass, the oak-aging its woodwinds, and the packaging its strings. When all these elements come together harmoniously, the result is a crescendo of flavour as transcendent as any one of Beethoven’s symphonies or Stravinsky’s ballets. Bowmore, the iconic Islay distillery, has been crafting transcendental scotch whisky for nearly 250 years, and its latest hit, Timeless 29 Year Old, has just landed in Canadian markets.
Limited to just 3,000 bottles, Timeless 29 Year Old is a blend of whisky from sherry-seasoned European oak casks and ex-bourbon barrels filled in 1991 and 1992. Bottled at cask strength (53.7 per cent ABV), Timeless 29 Year Old is a pure expression of nearly three decades of aging in Bowmore’s legendary No. 1 Vaults, the distillery’s maturation warehouse so near the sea that waves crash against its exterior. “We purposefully strive for more character by harnessing the optimal conditions and protecting the precise processes used to ensure that we bring bold flavours to the front,” says Calum Fraser, Bowmore’s master blender. “Timeless 29 Year Old is testament to the fact that our spirit ages like no other and keeps delivering breadth and depth of flavour as it matures.”
To celebrate its release, Bowmore tapped avant-garde pianist composer Hania Rani to compose music inspired by Timeless 29 Year Old. After visiting Islay and tasting Bowmore whisky, Rani wrote “The Boat,” a piece that encapsulates the rugged nature and immense history of the Hebridean island. “Nature is central to my inspiration, and being on Islay really amplified my own sense of natural connection,” Rania says. “There is something about Bowmore, because it comes from Islay, rooted in the land and shaped by nature, which perfectly represents ‘The Boat.’”
Bowmore Timeless 29 Year Old is now available for purchase in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick.
