Four Wine Pairings for Summer
Recommended by Canadian chef Mark McEwan.
Toronto-based celebrity chef Mark McEwan reveals his preferred wine pairings for summer celebrations.
For hosting a dinner party: Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc with goat cheese and rice crackers.
“Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc and goat cheese is my go-to wine and cheese pairing when entertaining. Unlike other New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines, Stoneleigh has distinct grapefruit and passionfruit notes making it an ideal pairing for a tangy, mineral goat cheese.”
For a special occasion: Perrier-Jouet Champagne with gruyere and whole wheat/buckwheat bread.
“Champagne is great for any celebratory occasion and you can never go wrong pairing it with gruyere. The rich and nutty flavours of this cheese perfectly contrast the effervescence of the Perrior-Jouet Champagne.”
For drinking pink wine: Campo Viejo Tempranillo Rosé with sliced baguette topped with crumbled feta, olive oil and fresh herbs.
“A zippy Rosé like Campo Viejo Tempranillo Rosé will go well with sliced baguette topped with crumbled feta, olive oil and fresh herbs.”
For sipping al fresco: Stoneleigh Pinot Noir with grilled, leaner meats.
“A lighter, fruitier red wine like Stoneleigh Vineyard’s Pinot Noir is a great wine to pair with grilled summer meats including lamb or gourmet hamburgers.”
