Montreal’s Wonderblush Makeup: Clean and Chic Beauty Staples
The Montreal-based founder and creative director Melanie Hachey made her name with a pared-back approach to makeup.
For Wonderblush founder and creative director Melanie Hachey, minimalist makeup is a way of life. A corporate marketer turned makeup artist, she got her start in the industry working at beauty counters before opening her own studio in Montreal’s Saint-Henri neighbourhood, where she made her name with a pared-back approach. Her signature look—fresh, luminous, and natural—is the cornerstone of the brand’s makeup line.
Wonderblush comprises blushes, bronzers, and liquid eyeshadows, as well as lip oils and balms, and lipsticks. It was inspired by Hachey’s artistic background and her clients’ feedback, resulting in products with buildable textures and everyday shades that take the guesswork out of makeup application. Soft and silky, the formulas are powered by skin-loving ingredients like squalane and nourishing oils.
The clean, cruelty-free, vegan, made-in-Canada brand offers a palette of timeless neutrals along with subtle yet striking colours ranging from pinks to corals to bordeaux. Cushiony powder blushes can be used to define the eye’s crease, shimmer liquid shadows double as highlighters, and lip oils give cheeks a sheer wash of colour in a pinch. “It’s the makeup equivalent of a basic T-shirt,” she says of the lineup. Though the comparison may evoke a laid-back attitude, the brand’s attention to detail is undeniable. It’s no wonder that, less than a year after its inception, the collection is already stocked by luxury and specialty beauty retailers, including Etiket in Montreal and Toronto.
