How to Get the Après-Sport Beauty Look Peter Philips Created for Dior
Workout blush, sporty eyeliner, and just-right dishevelled ponytails command the catwalk at Dior.
Sport has dominated the Paris landscape with the Olympics and Paralympics of late, and Maria Grazia Chiuri parlayed the theme into her collection for Dior’s spring/summer 2025 collection. Opening the show at Musée Rodin was Italian artist and competitive archer Sagg Napoli, who shot arrows at a target as the models walked the runway circuit in stylish sportswear. Chiuri has referenced a long list of strong women for her collections since her arrival at Dior in 2016, and for this season the “keyword Maria Grazia used was Amazon,” says Peter Philips, Dior makeup creative and image director. “Strong women who, in this case, work out or have come from a heroic battlefield.” The fashion show was a spectacle heightened by the beauty choices: a just-right dishevelled ponytail knot held back with a Dior double ribbon headband, sporty black eyeliner, and blush intended to mimic a natural workout flush. “It’s an après-sport look,” Philips says.
Backstage, Philips showed how to apply the “Amazonian” makeup look he created, beginning with Dior Forever Matte Foundation. “I always use matte foundation for the catwalk because it’s enough coverage to battle the light and it stays luminous as it’s not pure matte,” he says. To even out the skin, he used Dior Forever Skin Glow and Dior Forever Skin Contour stick (launched this past August). “In essence, the stick foundation invites you to combine—sometimes you use one stick, sometimes two sticks, and then you blend together,” he says of this newest Dior Beauty product. “You don’t need to apply too much—don’t fully crayon your face. You apply to the zones and blend out and know you can always add a bit more.” He has noticed a shift in application gestures by Gen Z (as is evident on social media), and “it is no longer about applying a foundation universally,” he says—thus the advent of Dior Forever Skin Contour Stick.
Blush placement was key, with “workout blush,” as Philips calls it, applied with Rouge Blush Colour & Glow to emulate the flush one gets after exercising. “It’s not application on the apples of the cheek—that’s more of a romantic blush—but placed under the cheekbones,” he says. For the eyes, “I avoided a clean line,” delivering the imperfect swipe of eyeliner on the lower lash line using Diorshow On Stage Crayon in 099 Black. Eyebrows were brushed up using the Diorshow Brow Styler and Diorshow On Set Brow. The overall look is “the day after makeup,” Philips says, “like you have been running around, doing a workout.” Lips were swiped with Dior Addict Lip Glow in Universal Clear and then, “last minute before the girls go on, Dior Capture Total Le Sérum,” to ensure a glisten.
The makeup used for the spring/summer 2025 collection is made up of all but one tried-and-true Dior Beauty classics—when the result is this good, why not stick with what works?
