Jeff Goodman Studio’s Devil’s Abacus

Glittering divide.

Founded in 1989, Toronto-based Jeff Goodman Studio has earned renown for its bespoke glass design and manufacturing, producing contemporary lighting sculptures, hand-blown vessels, and architectural glasswork. Most recently, the studio has gained attention for the Abacus, a customizable screen adorned with blown glass.

The design debuted at the 2017 Toronto Design Offsite Festival with the Devil’s Abacus, a custom-made installation, which won the Herman Miller People’s Choice award for “Favourite Window Installation” in stride. Available in a variety of different metal finishes and glass hues, the Abacus has an exposed frame, but can also be frameless and integrated into a built environment, acting as a divider or a way to modulate light. Once installed, it transforms a room into a piece of art punctuated by glittering jewels.
