The Condesa Edit
A fashion-meets-furniture line crafted in Canada by Toronto’s Golshaah and Studio Benu.

When two style-savvy friends take a trip, the results aren’t just memorable, they’re material. That’s what happened when Golnar Ahmadian and Neda Zavareh visited Mexico City. Mesmerized by the shapes and textures of Mexican design, the two entrepreneurs—Ahmadian is the founder of the fashion and lifestyle brand Golshaah, and Zavareh is the founder of the interior design firm Studio Benu—returned to Toronto inspired to put a Canadian spin on what they saw. Condesa, which means “countess” in Spanish, is the five-piece collection that acts as a memento of their shared journey.
Though the items are diverse, they share a sensual, sculptural quality that evokes the essence of Mexican design. The floor lamp and wall sconce highlight organic shapes, and a fabric shade resembles a scarf artfully draped over a light bulb. The Condesa sofa sets itself apart from the curved-sofa trend with an asymmetric form and bulbous oak feet, while the dining table, also asymmetric, showcases three different leg designs. The collection’s standout piece is the floor mirror, with its plaster-look finish and bone-like silhouette that is subtle yet strong enough to hold its own in any space.
While Condesa is an impressive debut, Ahmadian and Zavareh suggest that their collaborative project is just getting started: “Condesa is the beginning of a wonderful journey filled with art, creativity, and heartfelt passion.”
