The Porsche Sport Driving School

Race training comes to Canada.

You don’t exactly have to dig deep into Porsche’s history to find that the brand’s very identity is tied to motorsport. From race-specific models like the legendary 917 and the dominating 911 RSR to the modern street-ready 991 GT3 RS, motorsports are integral to the makeup of all Porsches. Fortunately for Canadian Porsche enthusiasts who want to experience the brand’s race-bred DNA in a legitimate and safe environment, you can now learn from the best.

For the first time, Porsche is bringing its Porsche Sport Driving School (PSDS) to Canada, transporting a 40-year-old program to one of Canada’s best-known racecourses. Designed to help drivers develop the cornerstone skills of performance driving, the PSDS offers legitimate track time in a number of Porsche models, making it an excellent starting point for those on the path to a race license.

Offered at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport International Raceway) just north of Bowmanville, Ontario, the PSDS offers five levels of training, from Precision to Master RSR. The introductory level Precision requires no previous training and covers everything from correct seating positions, understeer, oversteer, and driving style assessments. With the goal of making all participants more capable drivers, both on and off the road, the PSDS connects participants with highly qualified instructors and track-ready Porsche sports cars.

Not only do you get to experience spirited driving with no threat of legal repercussion, you get to do so safely, and behind the wheel of someone else’s Porsche.

The Precision level course is a two-day-long event promoting repetition, practice, and in-car experience. Day one focuses on the basics of car control and the assessment of potential threats from everyday driving scenarios. By day two, participants will be completing full laps of the racecourse, developing their abilities in a performance-minded environment.

The benefits of this style of schooling are multifold. Not only do you get to experience spirited driving with no threat of legal repercussion, you get to do so safely, and behind the wheel of someone else’s Porsche. Track experience improves all aspects of a driver’s skill set. From enhanced pace on the track to increased awareness on the road, programs like the PSDS make for better all-round drivers.

With dates available from May through September 2017, the Canadian wing of the Porsche Sport Driving School is open to participants of all skill level. With an entry cost of $2,495, the course offers actual track time in a Porsche, so it’s not your normal driver’s ed course. Whether you want to build confidence behind the wheel of your own Porsche or just hone your skills with some track time and focused tutelage, the multi-level Porsche Sport Driving School mixes Porsche’s race-bred history with a course designed to make any driver safer, faster, and more skillful.
