STRIKE’s Modern, Bespoke Mantels

Interior designer Chad Dorsey needed a mantel that would accommodate an off-centre fireplace, so he created the asymmetrical and sculptural Malibu. Since then, Dorsey’s eponymous Dallas-based interior design studio has launched STRIKE, a line of bespoke mantels.

“As a design feature, the fireplace has been merely functional with limited options for a modern mantel,” he says. “I began designing custom fireplaces for my clients because there weren’t really any clean, sculptural options available.”

Made to order in various stone surfaces, the STRIKE collection consists of seven models, each named for a California location and made with distinctive design features. “I design spatially, considering objects, the lines of a room, and how furnishings will be used in a space,” says Dorsey, who trained as an architect. “The fireplace, in my mind, is one of the main architectural elements in the room.”

With a soft launch in 2020, STRIKE’s official launch was earlier this year. Dorsey continues to create distinctive fireplaces, extending beyond the home to hospitality. “The next boutique luxury hotel you stay at will most likely have a STRIKE fireplace in it,” he says.
