Everything is Illuminated
Lighting designer Matthew McCormick.
Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan is the New York Fashion Week of the design world; every April, the festival shines a light on the best of the best. This year, lighting designer Matthew McCormick’s third time exhibiting, the Vancouver-based design darling is set to reveal a final version of his Mila Inverted—a fresh take on his Mila series, with an elongated loop frame to balance its handblown glass globe.
The prototype debuted at the International Interior Design Exhibition in Brussels last November, where it was warmly received by European designers and architects alike. McCormick has been one to watch in recent years, bursting onto the scene with his hand-finished Halo modular lighting series, the pieces inspired by the golden bubbles in a glass of Prosecco.
This past January in Toronto, in conjunction with DesignTO, McCormick debuted his first window installation in partnership with contemporary furniture store South Hill Home—a cascading, visual interpretation of the word effervescence.
