Canadian Fashion Spotlight: Process Visual

A minimalist ethos with dramatic flair.

From his first forays into fashion as a teenager, Jessy Colucci, the designer behind the Montreal-based label Process Visual, had an affinity for oversized silhouettes and a knack for modifying clothes to suit his unique sense of style. He studied fashion design at LaSalle College, but to stay true to his vision, he had to break the rules he’d been taught in school. “I developed my own way of pattern cutting,” he explains. The approach is mathematical to reduce waste as much as possible.”

Across collections, Colucci’s designs share monochromatic colour palettes, elegant draping, and voluminous silhouettes, with sharp angles and deliberate cuts that reveal masterful tailoring. Fabrics are chosen for the way they hang, with crisp cotton, silk, canvas, and wool on heavy rotation. Deceptively simple, the designs are meant to evoke “a sense of stillness,” says the 28-year-old designer.

Process Visual typically produces two main collections a year, along with small capsule drops, most of which he presents to his entourage during intimate soirées. “I love to express my world and create beautiful pieces that people want to wear,” he says. “But as long as my friends are wearing them, that’s what matters to me.”
