Alighieri’s Timeless Designs Have Expanded to the Home

The U.K. jewellery brand has released a collection of cutlery and decor, an extension of Alighieri’s literary-inspired products.

It’s natural to want to save special objects for an occasion. But everyday moments deserve to be infused with a sense of beauty and presence, and a new homewares collection from London-based jewellery brand Alighieri reminds us of this.

The new collection—Alighieri Casa—pays homage to the importance of our daily rituals. From cutlery to candleholders, each piece can be connected to a simple regular activity, whether that’s sitting down for a meal or lighting a candle at the end of the day.

“In the midst of our fast-paced lives, I think people are really craving a return to rituals that ground us, that civilizations have been practising for centuries. Gathering at the table to eat together is one of the most beautiful and humbling experiences,” explains Alighieri founder Rosh Mahtani, who named the company for the Italian poet and philosopher Dante Alighieri. “Taking the time to set the table, to lay down the foundations is a very cathartic experience. It really is a display of love for the people you choose to break bread with.”

Mahtani drew inspiration from the past to create the Alighieri Casa collection, yet each piece also conveys a sense of timelessness. The debut cutlery collection, with its sculptural curves and molten-textured handles, was inspired by tribal hunting tools, while a set of candlestick holders takes on organic forms reminiscent of prehistoric rock formations. There’s a strong tactile quality to each piece in the Casa collection, with a bold presence and textural components that invite you to pick up each object and interact with it.

“I always want my pieces to feel like a celebration of organic imperfection and vulnerability—in how they look and how they feel,” Mahtani says. “I love the idea of people creating their own daily rituals with these totemic objects.”

Each piece is originally hand-carved in wax before being sand cast to form a negative mould, which is then filled with brass and plated with gold or silver. “The most magical part of the process, for me, is that there needs to be a negative to create a positive. It’s such a beautiful metaphor for life,” Mahtani notes. The long-standing tradition of sand casting jewellery dates back thousands of years in alignment with Alighieri’s ethos.

The Casa collection is a natural continuation of Alighieri’s celebrated jewellery, with each piece reflecting artistry and a connection to a larger story, as well as acting as a modern heirloom, inspiring care for everyday objects crafted to be passed down.
