Tiffany & Co.’s long-lasting relationship with film has created some of the most iconic jewellery moments on screen, such as Daisy Buchanan’s lavish Roaring ’20s style in The Great Gatsby and, most famously, Audrey Hepburn wearing a pearl necklace with a central diamond brooch (and wearing the Tiffany Diamond necklace in promotion of) in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In its most recent partnership, the heritage brand dips into its jewellery archives for visionary director Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

“When you think about beauty and elegance, we said, ‘Let’s approach Tiffany,’” del Toro says in a behind-the-scenes featurette. For costume designer Kate Hawley, the jewellery used was an integral part of the film and needed to match its tonal quality. For this, the house pulled storied high-jewellry pieces, diamond necklaces, timepieces, and rare objects.

The character of Elizabeth (played by Mia Goth) dons such pieces as the Wade necklace and the 1914 scarab necklace by Meta Overbeck and Julia Munson for Louis Comfort Tiffany—neither of which has previously been used in a film. A first partnership of its kind with Netflix, the house describes the jewellery as a natural fit for the film’s storytelling and its creative expression.

In advance of the premiere, five window displays at Tiffany and Co.’s iconic flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York are infused with theatrical effects such as lightning strikes and rainy skies, in synch with Frankenstein’s score. Inside, a selection of pieces and jewels featured in the film are on display until November 3. This immersive experience continues across the pond at Selfridges in London until November 9.

Frankenstein is set to release on Netflix on November 7.
