Baccarat’s Le Roi Soleil by Marcel Wanders

Empire of light.

Le Roi Soleil

Since its 19th-century debut, the now iconic Zénith chandelier from French crystal house Baccarat has undergone a number of reimaginings, the latest of which was revealed this year at Milan’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile as part of the Lumières Out of the Box collection. This interpretation, Le Roi Soleil, comes from Dutch designer Marcel Wanders. Named after the equally extravagant Louis XIV, this light fixture is the embodiment of updated traditions translated for the modern world: Wanders has rolled the rigidity of the classic chandelier structure into a smooth, glowing sphere of tangled limbs and lampshades. Le Roi Soleil marks the third collaboration between Baccarat and Wanders, who has placed the maison’s signature scarlet crystal just so, the glimmer of an ongoing legacy.
