Silver treasures.

NUVO Magazine: Nini Boutique

Silverwork as an art form is a dying craft. But when Mehrak Mehrvar (of Toronto’s NiNi Boutique) travelled to a remote village in the province of Kandal, Cambodia, in support of women’s rights issues, she was impressed with the silversmith work of the village women and returned to Canada with 10 silver treasures. The products, one-of-a-kind-design metal purses are made of intricate weavings of fine silver threads. The most impoverished of women continue on in this once-revered Cambodian tradition of craft, and Mehrvar has pledged to sell the wares with the aim of opening the global market for these items, providing a sustainable income for the artisans and their families.
