An Expertly Refreshed Cabin in the Latvian Wilderness
Vipp Salaca River guest house.

Along the winding curves of the Salaca River, amid the old-growth trees and undulating meadows of Latvia’s Salaca Valley Nature Park, a rustic log cabin has been given a new lease on life.
Vipp Salaca River is a countryside retreat and the ninth guest house from the Danish design brand Vipp, whose beginnings date back to 1939 with the offering of a pedalled trash can. The family-owned company has expanded to kitchens, lighting, furniture, and home accessories, all of which are on display in 1,180-square-foot guest house.
For the Salaca River project, a condemned fisherman’s cabin built in 1876 was painstakingly refurbished. The main floor features a black powder-coated Vipp V1 kitchen, a cozy fireplace framed by circular mirrors, and a white-painted bedroom with twin beds. Upstairs, the lofted primary bedroom overlooks the living spaces.
Vipp CEO Kasper Egelund says the project “demonstrates how older homes can be transformed for modern life while still maintaining their historic charm.” And whether it’s soaking in the free-standing tub or relaxing terrace-side on the Vipp outdoor collection, charm and modern comfort are in ample supply at Salaca River.
