A First Look at Mollie Aspen, Colorado’s Chic Boutique Hotel
Inspired by the artistic and adventurous spirit of this Colorado ski town, Mollie Aspen is an intimate boutique property near Paepcke Park on the edge of Aspenʻs West End. This 68-room hotel was built in homage to Bauhaus artist/architect Herbert Bayer, who believed in the vision of Aspen as a place of art and culture. It is named after Mollie Gibson, a 19th-century resident who made lasting contributions to the city’s economic and cultural development.
Designed by CCY Architects from nearby Basalt, the two-storey façade is clad in radiata pine, a nod to the Rocky Mountains’ aspen forests, and in dark-grey brick, reminiscent of the nearby Elk Mountains. The lobby channels Bauhaus with a minimalist aesthetic that is both lavish and laid-back: geometric lines, natural woods, earth-tone ceramics, hand-dyed textiles, and leather furniture.
Brass lighting highlights the wood-grid ceilings, the burl-wood reception desk, and the lobby bar, constructed in sculptural panels of concrete. A textile creation by Rachel Snack hangs next to the lobby’s fireplace. Terra cotta tiles cover the walls of the third-floor lounge, and vintage elements are scattered throughout the public spaces, restaurants, and rooms.
Post Company designed the hotel’s interiors, referencing the mountain landscapes throughout the property and embracing the sleek style of Scandinavian and Japanese design. Guest rooms embrace a relaxing and earthy colour palette of cream, caramel, and loden green, with floor to ceiling windows providing unforgettable views of Red Mountain or Shadow Mountain from the living/sleeping quarters as well as the tiled bathroom with freestanding soaker tub, rainfall shower, and L:A Bruket organic toiletries.
Additional guest room amenities include Egyptian cotton sheets, bathrobes, custom merino wool throws, and Bluetooth speakers. In-room coffee is from Sightglass Coffee, a California roastery specializing in small batches.
Conceived by New York-based hospitality group Gin & Luck, Mollie’s lobby bar, café, and restaurant offer tasty bites and libations all day, with an outdoor ground-floor terrace accessible year-round. The Après menu is available from 3-5 p.m., with options such as a Mollie’s Toddy and small bites.
The rooftop spa pool and terrace feature eye-catching views of the Aspen Mountains, and at night, the terrace transforms into a lounge.
