The 2017 World Architecture Festival

Celebrating international architectural talent.

The World Architecture Festival has started its 10th edition on a strong note: this year, the festival received an unprecedented 924 entries and from this, has selected 434 projects for its awards shortlist. Spanning 68 different countries, the shortlist includes an international collection of innovative projects, including a typhoon-resistant opera house in China, floating student housing by Bjarke Ingels Group, and a Canadian-designed “smiling” sculpture.

To celebrate the milestone, the festival will also give out special awards to projects that reflect the values of its newly launched WAFX Manifesto—an initiative aimed at addressing key architectural challenges, such as climate change and an aging population, over the next 10 years. “In a period of profound change across the world, architects will play an important part in creating buildings, cities, public places, and landscapes that respond to the challenges we have identified,” says festival programme director Paul Finch.

The festival will take place in Berlin from November 15 to 17, when a panel of more than 100 judges from across the globe will select the winners from each category. Until then, browse through a selection of these world-class designs.
