When it comes to minimalist design, Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics come to mind—but not French. This past March, beloved French label Le Creuset turned tradition upside down for its Minimalist dinnerware collection, a supremely modern assortment of stoneware that includes all the essentials. Despite the simplicity of the designs, complex French dishes—a serving of duck confit, a slice of tarte Tatin—look right at home on the sleek settings. In the spirit of new traditions, the cookware company also introduced two colours into its lean collection of nine standard hues: Sage, a muted grey-green, and Meringue, the colour of fresh cream. Long considered the holy grail of enamelled cast-iron pots, Le Creuset notably still handcrafts its cast-iron wares in a historic foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France.
