The Oberammergau Passion Play
Sacred scene.
We wait every two years for Olympic fever, four for the World Cup tifosi, and 10 for the Bavarian town of Oberammergau in Germany to enact their passion play, the story of Christ’s life, crucifixion, and resurrection. The Oberammergau Passion Play was first performed in 1634, when the villagers vowed that if they were spared from the bubonic plague, they would perform it every 10 years forever after. Against the impressive backdrop of the Ammergau Alps, the 41st Oberammergau Passion Play this year takes place between May 15 and October 3, 2010.
