Time for Love
Distinctive red watches to give or get for Valentine's Day.
A certain date in February marks the occasion to romance with red, a colour long associated with lust, passion, and love. Whether you see February 14th as commercialized nonsense or a celebration of love, Valentine’s Day is upon us. The romantic rendezvous needn’t encompass flowers or chocolates—they don’t last. Alcohol has been used for centuries as an aid to human courtship rituals but you’ve moved on from gifting spirits to stir the soul. Why not give the gift of time? Herewith, seven distinctive timepieces that say, “I love you” until the end of time.
Harry Winston Avenue Classic Sweet Valentine
Wear your heart on your sleeve with the Classic Sweet Valentine Avenue by Harry Winston. Limited to just 14 pieces, the rectangular 18-karat white-gold case is set with brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel, lugs, and even the sides of the case which houses a mother-of-pearl dial along with mother-of-pearl hearts that seemingly float and trickle down the dial. A lone ruby heart is set in the arch above 12 o’clock along with a ruby in the crown. With this timepiece, it’s Valentine’s Day every minute of the day and a heartfelt tribute to love and time.
Omega De Ville Trésor 125th Anniversary Edition
To celebrate the milestone of 125 years, Omega released a new De Ville Trésor. The 40mm timepiece, crafted in 18-karat yellow gold, has a dial not yet seen before by Omega: red enamel. The burgundy leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching makes for a classy complement and inside, the watch beats with the new calibre 8929. The caseback is equally as impressive, with a commemorative 125 years anniversary medallion in the historic Omega font. The Omega De Ville Trésor is a celebratory watch for a big anniversary.
Blancpain Villeret Valentine’s
The pulsing heart of this special edition Blancpain Villeret Valentine’s Day 2019 is the 913QL.P movement, housed in a 33 mm red gold case set with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel and lugs. The mother-of-pearl dial showcases diamonds as hour markers, red gold numerals marking each quarter-hour, along with a seconds hand shaped like Cupid’s arrow, and a fourth hand tipped with a red-lacquered heart that indicates the date. The moon phase appears at 6 o’clock, distinguished by a beauty mark at the corner of her smile. Released in a series of 99 individually numbered timepieces, the watch is outfitted with two alligator straps—flaming red and pristine white—that are easily interchangeable by pressing on the catches beneath the straps.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Burgundy Red
Paying tribute to the first Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso launched in 1931 comes a new iteration of the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds in stainless steel in an impressive Bordeaux colour, equipped with a Casa Fagliano strap. The Reverso was originally created at the request of a group of polo players, its purpose to keep the front of the watch protected during a polo match by virtue of a swivel system exposing the case back on the front. The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Burgundy, as released at Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie earlier this year, is a unisex timepiece—a classic in a desirable colourway.
Breguet Reine de Naples 8905
A watch fit for a queen. Breguet adds to its Reine de Naples collection with this iridescent pale pink mother-of-pearl dial and diamonds timepiece for Valentine’s Day. Encased in the iconic Breguet oval-shaped 18-karat white gold case is a self-winding manufacture movement with moon-phase and power reserve indicators at 12 o’clock. The crown is set with a pink cabochon-cut sapphire and the mauve-coloured alligator leather strap completes the romantic palette. A special series specifically for Valentine’s Day, this Reine de Naples is limited to 28 timepieces.
Cartier Diagonale
Cartier has long had a love affair with fascinating shaped watches and the Cartier Diagonale with its crosswise features, seems to be taken straight from the maison’s sketchbook. Lines of red and black enamel are accompanied by paved diamonds with a dial distinctly stamped with Cartier’s watchmaking codes. Available in a limited edition of only 50 pieces, the 18-karat white gold case is set with 70 brilliant-cut diamonds, totalling 0.90 carats. Powered by a quartz movement, the Cartier Diagonale watch is delivered on a burgundy alligator leather strap.
Jaquet Droz Lady 8 Petite Ruby Heart
Dainty, discreet, and delicately feminine, the Lady 8 Petite by Jaquet Droz is timeless elegance. Housed in a 25mm 18-karat red gold case, the signature figure 8 dial reveals ruby heart, an opaque gemstone, topped with a ruby heart bead in the upper loop (that can be rolled under the fingers this way and that, like a sophisticated fidget toy). Limited to 28 pieces, the watch is set with 68 diamond coils on the bezel complemented by a buckle with more diamonds—23 of them.
