The Limited Edition Monsieur de Chanel Chronosphere Clock

An art object that tells time.

Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, a Leo star sign, had a thing for lions. The big cat was a muse and ever-present symbol in Chanel’s 31 rue Cambon apartment along with her creations. From ready-to-wear to haute couture and haute joaillerie collections to 2018, when four bronze lions with black matte PVD treatment handsomely anchor the Monsieur de Chanel Chronosphere Clock.

Designed by the legendary Parisian maison, the tabletop clock—produced in a limited edition of only five pieces—was realized by master clockmaker L’Épée 1839. The decorative object tracks the passage of time with two rotating disks showcasing the hours and minutes in the upper half of the glass globe; a palladium-plated gear train is visible in the bottom half. Coco Chanel was as outspoken as she was talented, and since “a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous,” so too with the telling of time.
