Hotels Across Canada Are Amping Up Their Wellness Offerings
A look at some of the best spas with overnight stays situated outside the major cities.

Kananaskis Nordic Spa
The idea of a “wellness retreat” has never been stronger. Hotels and resorts across Canada are elevating their spa and refresh offerings with bigger soaks, a broader range of treatments and more tailored approaches based on the locale. In this highly-competitive space, luxury travel providers are always looking to one-up each other while keeping the needs of the guest front and center. These four destinations certainly provide a welcome dose of relaxation and respite either at the end of an active day or as the focal point of a vacation.
Fairmont Château Lake Louise/BASIN Glacial Waters
The Fairmont Lake Louise is perhaps one of Canada’s most legendary hotels situated within the country’s most popular national park. This summer, the resort will add a sensory-focused thermal wellness facility called BASIN Glacial Waters to its amenity lineup. While details are scant, early images show a beautiful, contoured building with outdoor soaking pools set among neutral colors meant to blend into the stunning landscape. Expect true serenity surrounded by the stunning Rockies.

St. Anne’s brings a blend of old and new when it comes to wellness. The 1800s-era fieldstone castle is a base to experience all of the modern amenities luxury travelers come to expect, such as soaking pools, treatments and more. What sets it apart is that guests can stay overnight in one of a handful of cottage rooms or even a farmhouse located just off the main property.

Located inside the grounds of the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Autograph Collection, the Nordic spa features 50,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy, treatment rooms and more. The spa layout is similar to that of other ski destinations in the western half of Canada, but this one offers the bonus of being situated within a larger luxury resort. The concept there was so successful, they expanded to an additional project in Alaska. At just over an hour from Calgary, the Kananaskis Nordic Spa makes for an ideal day trip if a full adventure to Banff isn’t in the cards.
