Here’s How Everyone’s Doing Denim for Fall 2026

Jeans, jackets, and Canadian tuxedos—the first fall leaf to touch the ground signals the shift from jorts to full-length denim. While the material may not entirely belong to one single season, in autumn’s rich, layered palette, denim is complementary to the cozy fall scheme.
As such a dynamic textile, the tide shifts on major styles every year. For 2026, the trend stories lean into denim tops—encouraging double denim—and more tailored, streamlined silhouettes. Here are the five denim styles you’ll be seeing and wearing this fall.

The Everyday Slouchy Jean
Welcome the new white tee of jeans. The slouchy jean is a tried-and-true piece, now foundational to the modern capsule wardrobe. No matter how hard you fought for the skinny jean, the slouchy style eventually was undeniably more comfortable and more versatile. This fall is no different. At Canadian denim brand Decade Studio, the new autumn/winter collection (available October 2) is weighted by wide-legged denim, favouring the slouchy style.

The Dark Indigo Wash Jean
Season after season, denim has been getting darker. The medium wash faded, saturated, then faded again, but I think it’s safe to say rich indigo is this autumn’s staple shade. Dress up the jean with a kitten heel or down with a graphic tee—the possibilities of the stormy blue wash are practically endless.

The Comeback Bootcut Jean
She’s back! Amid the masses of slouching oversized denim, a more slender silhouette rises from the ashes, signalling a return to the Y2K skinny profile. The iconically western denim style is back in the new wave catalogue for fall 2026. The flared fit is undergoing a quiet revival, timidly returning in faded vintage washes—as if you just threw on an old pair from the back of your closet.

The Contemporary Tailored Jacket
The denim jacket never truly goes out of fashion. Those we’re seeing for fall are not like the boxy jacket of the late 2010s nor the utilitarian silhouette of the early 2020s. The anchor of the Canadian tux, the new jacket is formalized, veering toward a dressier territory than streetwear. The trendy cut pinches the waist by using tailoring or a belt and is buttoned to the collar. Reformation’s new fall campaign ushers in a belted denim jacket as one of its core styles, as seen on Olivia Jade.

The Simple Button-Front Shirt
Fashioned as the material’s most casual form, the denim shirt is a lesser-known relative in the fabric’s family tree. Subtly, the more vintage-looking the button-front, the more in sync with the season. Citizens of Humanity offers a breezy take on the denim piece constructed from a lightweight fabric with golden brown contrast stitching. On the other hand, Ganni offers a structured take on the tee designed in a thicker denim, relaxed due to its batwing sleeves.
