The Omega Speedmaster 38, Refined
A new chapter for Omega’s celebrated chronograph brings vintage cues with modern proportions.
The Speedmaster has never needed to announce itself. Its presence—and the pedigree behind it—has always done that job just fine. Now, Omega has given its midsize chronograph a makeover that feels less “scaled-down classic” and more “knows exactly what it’s doing.” The biggest change is visual: those distinctive oval subdials are out, replaced by round registers that give the watch a cleaner, more traditional Speedmaster face. The bezel gets beefier, the bracelet has five links, and the beloved Dot-Over-Ninety tachymeter detail returns—because sometimes the nerdy stuff is cool stuff.
Seven new versions span black, white, steel, two-tone, and diamond-set configurations. Inside, Omega’s Co-Axial calibres bring plenty of mechanical credibility. At 38 millimetres, it’s compact without feeling timid. Think of it as the Speedmaster after a particularly good haircut: same DNA, considerably more swagger.
