Los Cabos Gets a New Golf Course

Oleada Golf Links arrives as part of a new oceanfront development.

At the end of 2026, Los Cabos in Mexico will see the addition of a new golf course to its already stellar lineup. Oleada Golf Links is scheduled to open in November as part of a wider development on 860 acres of oceanfront land, including three- and-four bedroom residences.

The course is being designed by legendary South African golfer Ernie Els through his golf course architecture firm Ernie Els Design. Els, a four-time Major Championships winner and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, has previously designed courses such as The Els Club Dubai and the Savannah Course at Mission Hills in China.

The site has ample views of the Pacific Ocean from its position on the tip of the Baja Peninsula and sits on the same stretch of coastline as El Cardonal, Diamante’s Dunes, and Quivira Golf Club. Similar to these courses, Oleada will use the dramatic dunes and natural sandy soil ideal for golf courses in its design.

For his first design in Mexico, Els has looked to the links courses of the British Isles for inspiration and has spoken about his desire to react to the land when designing rather than move mountains of earth to achieve his desired result.

“I’d say this is probably the most dramatic natural site that our firm has had the pleasure of working with,” he says. “A desert-meets-ocean landscape where the contours and natural dune formations are almost an open invitation for the placement of golf holes.”

Surrounding the course is a grand plan for one of Los Cabos’s largest golf clubhouses and a golf practice facility. The philosophy espoused by Els for his golf course is a through line for the whole development, with architecture that is in tune with the land and ocean.
