The gavel falls on September 28 for Monaco’s Only Watch auction, benefitting Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (the Monaco Association Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy). Nowhere else will you find the highly competitive community of watch manufacturers uniting under one roof. The biennial charity event is a tremendous achievement, and was created by Luc Pettavino after his son Paul, now 17 years old, was diagnosed with the genetic disorder.
That’s not to say the watchmakers don’t vie for top bid. Herewith, a visual journey through the 33 one-of-a-kind timepieces created just for this year’s auction. The event raised €4,563,00 in 2011, and will likely fetch no less this year.
This year’s auction raised a record €5,066,000 (just over $7-million Canadian) for Duchenne muscular dystrophy research.
