There is a widely disseminated quote by Greek historian Thucydides that states “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.” This sentiment was echoed in the actions of Salvatore Ferragamo in 1914—then only 16 years old, he emigrated from southern Italy to Boston, Massachusetts, and convinced his brother, who was working in a boot factory, to move to California to create one-of-a-kind made-to-measure shoes. The rest, as they say, is history, and a new digital project celebrates his vision and bravado with profiles of some of today’s daring gentlemen.

Through “A Man’s Story”, video shorts captured by Francesco Carrozzini under the direction of Ferragamo’s Massimiliano Giornetti, musician A$AP Rocky, artist and photographer Ryan McGinley, actor Douglas Booth, hockey legend Henrik Lundqvist, and art world entrepreneurs Alexander Gilkes, Louis-Marie de Castelbajac, and Tyrone Wood each divulge the key moments that led to their success. “I always just believed that there are people doing things that you dream of doing, but only you can choose to do them,” says Booth. “I have this theory that I believe in,” adds A$AP Rocky . “You don’t have success without risk or sacrifice.” And so, Ferragamo’s convictions carry on through the next generation of visionaries.
