Sid Neigum x The Vancouver Opera

All that glitters.

opera gala

After showing at London Fashion Week this February, Alberta-born, Toronto-based designer Sid Neigum’s fall/winter 2018 collection is coming to Vancouver for an exclusive showing at BMO Overture: All That Glitters, the Vancouver Opera’s signature philanthropic gala. Neigum, 29, has been tapped to design costumes for the VO’s upcoming production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro—an anticipated element of the company’s inaugural three-production, 16-day opera festival format (Otello and Dead Man Walking will also be featured). “[All That Glitters] will be a glamorous event with a unique collaboration,” says creative director at BMO Overture Thomas Anselmi in a release. Neigum’s sculptural designs will be complemented with a remixed opera score by electronic music producer Phil Western (who has worked with everyone from Bryan Adams to American rock band Nine Inch Nails) and set and lighting design from Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Craig Trudeau, making for an evening of fashion, music, and staging, coupled with the joy of the operatic aria. The event will epitomize the 60-year-old opera company’s new direction to a festival format, which is focused on supporting a diverse range of contemporary Canadian artistic talent.

BMO Overture: All That Glitters takes place on Friday March 31, 2017 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, 900 West Georgia Street. Tickets and more information at overture.vancouveropera.ca
