The NARS Erdem Strange Flowers Collection

Botanical beauty.

New York–based cosmetic company NARS, known for glorious, buildable colours and creating cult favourite products like Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzing power, has paired up with Montreal-born, U.K.-based fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu of Erdem, to launch a limited-edition Strange Flowers Collection, just in time for spring.

As a makeup powerhouse, NARS has long been used as part of the makeup looks for models walking in Erdem fashion shows. Always fascinated by flowers, Moralioglu, the creator of many a romantic floral frock and beloved by the likes of Kate Middleton, was in his element. “It was really interesting to explore my aesthetic in collaboration with NARS and see how far we could push different elements through colour and products,” says Moralioglu. “It was fascinating to develop new pigments and palettes as well as the cosmetics themselves.”

The dusty blue packaging features dahlias and lilies, and palettes range from demure to daring, with six new lipsticks named such exotic things as Bloodflower, Carnal Carnation, and Moon Orchard. Blushes come in Loves Me—a strawberry gold, and Loves Me Not, a soft lavender pink. For summer evenings the Night Garden eyeshadow palette or the film noir-ish Fleur Fatale eyeshadow palette offer an array of highly pigmented shades with a luminous finish and exemplify Moralioglu’s eye for colour—these bruisy orchids and roses are unlike any other. Also excellent is the multi-use highlighting pencil in White Phlox, an opalescent colour for eyes or cheeks. New to NARS are the light as a petal Poison Rose lip powder palette, which allows one to build an array of diffuse, matte looks, as well as dainty floral blotting papers.
