FROM THE ARCHIVE: Every September in the city of Charlottetown, seafood lovers, local fishermen, international chefs and champion oyster shuckers converge on the waterfront to take part in a three-day extravaganza: the Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival.

The story begins at a train station. Matthew Cuthbert, ready to meet the child that he and his sister Marilla have adopted, is informed that it is not a boy (as he had expected), but a girl—a loquacious girl with red hair.

“Always do two things instead of one” was the advice bestowed upon a young Tony Bennett by Duke Ellington. Bennett took it to heart and says that he paints every day. “I’ve had a passion to sing and paint all my life.”
